"Why is one flooring quote £500 cheaper than another?"
"Why is one flooring quote £500 cheaper than another?"
It's a question we're asked quite regularly...
The simple answer?
Not every flooring quote includes the same quality of preparation, materials, or workmanship.
When comparing quotes, it's important to look beyond the final price. Two quotes may seem to be for the same job, but they can be very different in what's actually included.
At SR Flooring Stroud, we don't believe in cutting corners just to offer the cheapest quote. We believe in providing a floor that looks fantastic on day one and continues to perform for years to come.
For example, on one of our recent projects we discovered the existing subfloor had completely failed once the old flooring was removed.
Rather than laying straight over it, we:
- Repaired and strengthened the subfloor.
- Installed flooring-grade SP101 plywood.
- Reinforced the joints with 4x4 mesh.
- Applied feather finish across every joint.
- Primed the entire floor.
- Installed a full fibre-reinforced latex screed.
- Then fitted the new LVT flooring with a colour-matched silicone finish.
Quality materials matter too...
A quote can also vary because of the products being used.
We only use products that we trust and know will stand the test of time, including:
- Flooring-grade plywood designed specifically for flooring installations.
- Premium primers to ensure maximum adhesion.
- Fibre-reinforced latex screeds for added strength and durability.
- Professional-grade adhesives recommended by the flooring manufacturers.
- High-quality silicones to achieve a clean, long-lasting finish.
Cheaper alternatives do exist, but they can compromise the lifespan and performance of your new floor.
So why do prices vary?
A cheaper quote isn't always bad, and a more expensive quote doesn't automatically mean better. The important thing is understanding what you're actually paying for.
Before making your decision, it's worth asking:
• Does the quote include all floor preparation?
• What products are being used?
• Are the primers, adhesives and screeds good quality or simply the cheapest available?
• What happens if hidden subfloor issues are found?
• Does the installer level the floor if needed?
• Are finishing details, such as colour-matched silicone, included?
• Is uplift and disposal of the old flooring included?
Sometimes two quotes can be hundreds—or even thousands—of pounds apart because they simply aren't quoting for the same standard of work.
At SR Flooring Stroud, we'll always explain exactly what's included, why it's needed, and we'll only recommend work that's genuinely necessary.
Our aim isn't to be the cheapest. Our aim is to deliver a floor that's installed correctly, using quality materials, with the attention to detail it deserves.
Because when it's done properly, it's a floor you'll enjoy for many years to come.
