Attic Room LVT Installation in Stroud: The Importance of Choosing the Right Adhesive

At SR Flooring, we recently completed an LVT installation across two attic rooms, creating a warm and modern finish while also taking into account some of the challenges that come with installing flooring in converted attic spaces.

The project involved installing wood-effect LVT over newly prepared flooring-grade plywood, providing a clean and durable finished floor that complements the character of the rooms.

Preparing the Attic Rooms

Before the LVT could be installed, the floors were prepared using flooring-grade plywood. A suitable, stable and smooth substrate is particularly important when installing LVT, as imperfections in the base can potentially show through the finished flooring.

Once the plywood preparation was complete, we were able to move on to installing the chosen LVT.

Considering Temperature in an Attic Space

One of the main considerations with this particular project was the location of the rooms.

Attic and loft rooms can experience much higher temperatures than other areas of a property, particularly during the summer months. This can create additional considerations when installing LVT, as temperature changes can contribute to expansion and movement if the flooring isn't installed using the appropriate products and techniques.

For this reason, we used a specialist high-temperature adhesive for the installation.

Using the appropriate adhesive for the environment helps provide a strong bond and was chosen specifically to help reduce the potential for movement in the warmer conditions these rooms can experience.

Attention to Detail Around the Edges

Once the LVT had been fitted, we also finished the perimeter with a clear silicone bead.

This provides a neat, professional finish around the edges while helping to tidy the transition between the LVT and the surrounding walls, skirting and other areas.

With attic rooms, there can often be plenty of awkward areas to work around, including sloping ceilings, exposed beams, unusual room shapes and restricted access. Careful measuring and cutting is therefore particularly important to achieve a clean finished result.

The Finished Result

The completed LVT has completely transformed the attic rooms, giving them a warm, natural wood-effect appearance while providing a practical and easy-to-maintain flooring solution.

The combination of proper plywood preparation, the correct adhesive for the environment and careful installation has helped create a finish that looks great while taking the specific conditions of the rooms into consideration.
