A new look with Karndean LVT flooring
At SR Flooring, we recently completed a Karndean LVT flooring installation in Kings Stanley, transforming the space with a warm, natural wood-effect finish.
The customer chose a straight plank layout, creating a clean and timeless appearance that complements the property's original features. The wood-effect design works particularly well alongside the exposed stone wall, combining the character of the building with the practicality of modern luxury vinyl tile flooring.
Although the finished floor looks straightforward, achieving a professional result takes careful planning, accurate preparation and attention to detail throughout the installation.
Preparing the floor for Karndean LVT
A successful LVT installation starts long before the first plank is fitted. The condition of the subfloor plays a major part in the finished appearance, so preparation is an important stage of the process.
For this project, we applied primer before installing a latex smoothing compound to help create a suitable surface for the new flooring.
Once the latex had cured, we identified some small gaps where the compound had run through the existing floor. These areas needed further attention, so we used a suitable featherfinish smoothing compound to refine the surface and help achieve the smooth, flat finish required for the LVT installation.
Taking the time to address these details helps provide a better foundation for the finished floor.
A careful installation around the original stone wall
One of the more challenging aspects of this project was fitting the flooring neatly against the original exposed stone wall.
Unlike a straight plastered wall, natural stone has an irregular edge with varying depths and contours. This meant each section needed to be measured and cut carefully to follow the shape of the stonework.
Getting these cuts right makes a significant difference to the final appearance. It allows the flooring to sit neatly against the wall while preserving the property's original character.
The result is a warm, wood-effect floor that complements the stonework and gives the room a fresh, finished look.
Why choose LVT flooring?
Luxury vinyl tile flooring is a popular option for homeowners looking for the appearance of wood alongside a practical, easy-to-maintain surface.
Depending on the product selected, LVT can offer:
Realistic wood and stone designs.
A choice of plank layouts and finishes.
A practical surface for everyday living.
Straight plank or patterned installation options.
A finish that complements both modern interiors and traditional properties.
The suitability of a particular product depends on the room, subfloor, moisture conditions and manufacturer's installation requirements. Proper preparation and the correct installation method are essential.
