Carpet to LVT Flooring Transformation in Minchinhampton, Stroud
At SR Flooring, we recently completed a lounge flooring transformation in Minchinhampton, near Stroud, replacing the customer's existing carpet with a modern wood-effect LVT floor.
The customer wanted a fresh, practical alternative to carpet, with the natural appearance of wood and the durability to cope with everyday life.
The finished result looks fantastic, but as with any quality LVT installation, getting the subfloor properly prepared was just as important as fitting the flooring itself.
Preparing the subfloor for LVT
Before installing the new flooring, we removed the existing carpet and prepared the floor to create a suitable base for the LVT.
We installed new flooring-grade plywood throughout the lounge, making sure the surface was properly secured and suitable for the new flooring.
The joints between the plywood boards were then featherfinished to create a smooth, even surface, helping to minimise the risk of imperfections showing through the finished LVT.
Good preparation is essential when fitting LVT because it is a relatively thin flooring product. Any uneven areas, joints or imperfections in the subfloor can potentially show through once the flooring is installed.
Fitting Textures Distressed Oak LVT
Once the preparation was complete, we installed Textures Distressed Oak LVT, giving the lounge a warm, natural wood-effect appearance.
This particular LVT features a 0.55mm wear layer, making it a durable option for everyday residential use.
The distressed oak finish works particularly well in this room, complementing the existing décor and creating a much fresher appearance compared with the original carpet.
To complete the installation, we applied a clear silicone seal around the perimeter, providing a neat finish along the edges.

The transformation has made a real difference to the room, creating a practical, easy-to-maintain floor with the appearance of natural wood.
